What is Bartlesville Doing?

Do we have any GREEN Ordinances?

Several city ordinances serve multiple purposes in our community.  While they may primarily address aesthetic or land use issues, they have the added benefit of enhancing and protecting our environment.
- Landscape Requirements:  Section 7.4.3.1 of the Zoning Regulations requires developers to install trees along street frontages.  Section 7.4.2.8 of the Zoning Regulations requires developers to install landscaped islands and trees within parking lots.  Section 7.4.3.8 of the Zoning Regulations, requires a 20-foot landscape buffer with trees between incompatible uses, such as residential and non-residential.  If a street, parking lot, or buffer tree is removed or dies, it must be replaced.
- Tree Preservation:  Section 7.4.3.9 of the Zoning Regulations gives landscape credit to developers who preserve mature trees.

                                What's happening in City Hall?

- Lights Out!
To save energy, at the end of the day, we turn our lights out in city hall.
- Energy Savings Study
In October 2008, the City contracted with Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A. to complete an energy savings study for city hall.  The study identified upgrades that can be made to the building lighting systems, mechanical cooling and heating systems, DDC controls, as well as window improvements which can provide long term energy savings to the City.
- Energy Efficiency Grant
We recently applied for a grant to replace our lighting with more energy efficient fixtures.
- Aluminum Cans
We have a collection spot where employees can leave their aluminum cans, which are then recycled and the money donated to worthy causes.

The City of Bartlesville encourages green building design and techniques in all development projects.  We have been discussing incentives for local building projects that are environmentally sensitive, and we hope to make those incentives available in the very near future.  In the mean time, we will do our best to provide you the assistance and information you need to help you in your efforts to find sustainable building alternatives.
